Under a Lurid Sky

A big fire just to the east of us, on the other side of the mountain, burned fiercely yesterday afternoon. Its smoke rose up over the mountain, creating what our friend Jan called a "lurid sky."


Later in the evening, to the west, a scene still tinged by the remaining smoke.


And this morning, constant traffic overhead, air tankers heading to the blaze.
